| Michael Ferns is a BAFTA New Talent award winning young Scottish director and editor, his passion for filmmaking having begun at a very young age. Having had much success from a number of his short films, gaining recognition from leading industry professionals, he was offered the chance to direct his debut feature film, a historical fantasy entitled, Kirk. The feature won much critical acclaim and has to this date, won several awards including ‘Best Independent Feature’ at the International Festival of Fantastic Films in 2009 and for Michael, ‘Best Director’ at the BAFTA New Talent Awards in 2010.Oscar nominated and BAFTA award winning cinematographer, Seamus McGarvey (Atonement, We Need To Talk About Kevin, The Avengers, Nowhere Boy etc) commended the photography after watching the trailer for the film online: “Kirk is beautifully photographed and evokes the period with a rich cinematic eye”. After the success of ‘Kirk’, Michael has begun work on another feature with a British production company. |
| His other work has included directing commercial work with internationally acclaimed singer and broadcaster Fiona Kennedy for the PBS network in the US.More commercial work has found him working with such names as David Hayman, Lorraine Kelly and The Proclaimers to name a few.Michael is currently in his final year studying for a BA Digital Film and Television at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.Michael has, most recently, entered pre-production for a short film he is directing named ‘Seed’. Written and produced by Samuel Ferguson, with cinematography by David Liddell and starring multi award winning actors David Hayman (Trial and Retribution, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) and Kate Dickie (Red Road, Filth, Prometheus). |
